The lighter 2005 Le Petit Bryant (550 cases) is made in a more Bordeaux-like style weight-wise than the 2004, but without any austere tannin or cool climate characteristics. Aromas of underbrush, red currants, and black cherries are followed by a medium-bodied wine that will be best consumed during its first 4-5 years of life. At this small (14.5 acres), beautifully manicured hillside vineyard, Don Bryant and his winemaking team have begun to cull out 200-500 cases of wine in order to maintain the quality of the top wine. The resulting second wine, Le Petit Bryant, is essentially a selection of younger vines and barrels that did not make the cut for the top wine. There are 200 cases of the 2004 Le Petit Bryant, which is an elegant, soft, fruity red offering notes of spicy caramel, vanillin, blackberries, and sweet cherries. Enjoy it over the next 5-6 years.
