The estate’s 2005 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a wonderful effort in a challenging year. The wine bursts on the mid-palate with gorgeous dark cherries in liqueur, flowers, minerals, blackberries and cassis. Truffles, French oak and mocha develop in the glass adding complexity. This could use a little more consistency from start to finish, yet is nevertheless highly engaging. The Amarone is 65% Corvina, 20% Corvinone, 10% Rondinella and 5% Molinara. The wine spent 30 months in small French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.
These are the first wines I have tasted from Buglioni, a small property located in San Pietro in Cariano, in the historic Valpolicella zone.
