The Caccia al Piano 2020 Bolgheri Rosso Ruit Hora is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Syrah and 5% Petit Verdot. Fruit comes from four separate vineyard sites in different areas of the appellation (from 23 hectares in total). This warm-vintage wine delivers a lot of ripe fruit, sweet tannins and spicy oak toast with hints of the vanilla you get with barrique aging (although botti is also used for 16 months). Named after a Latin line meaning "time passes quickly" from the great Italian poet Goisuè Carducci (the first of his countrymen to receive a Noble Prize in Literature), Ruit Hora is a wine that has changed stylistically in recent years. Past vintages were sometimes heavy and thick on the mid-palate. This vintage primarily showcases the softness of the Merlot. Production is an ample 100,000 bottles and it will be released this September.

A blend of 65% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon fleshed out with some Syrah and Petit Verdot, the 2017 Bolgheri Rosso Ruit Hora shows good harmony between its various moving parts. Presenting a unified front, the bouquet is redolent of dark cherry and blackberry preserves backed by spice, toast and burnt ember. The bold intensity of the wine's dark fruity side is well matched to the oak shadings. This is a great choice for a hearty ragù. An ample 90,000 bottles were made.

The 2016 Bolgheri Rosso Ruit Hora is an especially dense and well-endowed expression from Bolgheri that ultimately shows more intensity on the nose than it does on the mouth. The bouquet opens to a medley of dark fruit aromas, with blackberry appearing at the front. However, in terms of mouthfeel, this mid-weight wine feels light and fresh. It is never heavy. The wine is drinking beautifully right now and there is no reason to wait to pop the cork. The blend is 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and smaller parts Syrah and Petit Verdot (aged in oak for 15 months). Some 90,000 bottles were made.
