Here’s a wine you don’t run into everyday: the 2010 Cori Raverosse represents a blend of Nero Buono (50%) Montepulciano and Cesanese. It’s a veritable case study of three indigenous grapes of central Italy. It offers an interesting taste of the little known Cori appellation south of Rome. Inhabited by the ancient Romans, Cori’s volcanic soils have long been celebrated for wine production. Black cherry, tar, toasted almond and tar emerge from the glass. There’s a slightly burnt or charred note that I also found in some of the other red wines from this producer. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018.
