The young, unoaked 2016 Tempranillo Old Vines has a fruit-driven nose of berries and licorice. The palate reveals some fine tannins and a soft texture. 125,000 bottles produced.

The young red 2015 Tempranillo Old Vines had a spectacular nose of ripe fruit and a very subtle layer of spices that add some creaminess; it is clean, focused and aromatic. The palate was juicy with flavors of blackberries and licorice. This is one of those young reds aged for six months in barrel. 75,000 bottles produced.

The young, 2013 Tempranillo Old Vines from purchased fruit grown around Haro has a fruit-driven nose of strawberry that feels a little jammy, with some spices probably because of the six months the wine matured in oak barrels. The palate is soft, with a silky texture, approachable, easy to drink and fresh. 50,000 bottles produced.

The 2010 Tempranillo Old Vines has a lifted mocha and cappuccino-scented bouquet that is a little oaky. The palate is medium-bodied with low acidity, oaky black fruit and a rather simple, easy-drinking finish. Drink now-2014. I found the wines from Bodegas Carlos Serres to be commercially sound, but frankly a little underwhelming in the context of others I tasted during my time in Rioja.
