The 2010 Molin Vecchio is a Tuscan blend of 80% Sangiovese with smaller parts Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Carpineto chooses to release this wine late (now some eight years after the harvest) so that you can enjoy the tertiary definition that the wine has gained after careful bottle aging and evolution. Cabernet aromas of dark fruit and grilled herb are the most prominent. This is a full-bodied red wine with the tight tannic structure to pair with succulent grilled meats. Only 2,000 bottles were produced.

The 2006 Molin Vecchio is an evolved blend of Sangiovese, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine opens to a brooding dark color and thick, dark concentration. Despite its many years of bottle aging, this bold Tuscan red tastes much younger than it really is. The fresh conditions of the 2006 vintage have done much to preserve the integrity of the fruit that is displayed here with such confidence. Dark cherry, blackberry, licorice, spice and Spanish cedar emerge from the glass. The wine's density is rich, plush and enduring. Although the oak is reasonably well integrated, you do feel some wood astringency on the finish.

This is a gorgeous blend of Sangiovese (80%), Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon with luscious levels of black fruit, hickory smoke and cherry cola. What sets the wine apart is the density and the obvious quality of the fruit. It is chewy and slightly sweet with firm, polished tannins on the close.——M.L.(11/1/2009)—— 94
