The 2004 Montgarnatx is a blend of 75% Garnacha and 25% Carignan from relatively young vines planted in a challenging terroir yielding less than a ton of fruit per acre. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged for 8 months in used French oak. Dark ruby/purple in color, the wine gives off lovely aromas of cedar, cinnamon, kirsch, blueberry, and licorice. This is followed by a full-bodied wine with ripe, plummy, balsamic and blue fruit flavors of superb intensity, lots of depth, and a long, pure finish. Cellar this tasty wine for 2-3 years and enjoy it for a decade thereafter. Like most of the stars in Priorat, Francesc Sanchez Bas, an agricultural engineer, only started his estate as recently as 1996. All the grapes come from vineyards owned by Bas and are made by Roser Amoros.Importer: Winebow Inc., Montvale, NJ; tel. (201) 445-0620
