The Per''e Palummo grape gets its name because of the shape of the cluster that resembles a dove's foot (dove is "colombe" or "palomba" in Italian). The Casa d'Ambra 2017 Ischia Per''e Palummo is a blend of that grape (also known as Piedirosso) with 15% Guarnaccia and other local indigenous grapes. This wine opens to bright but raw aromas of dark fruit, crushed stone and potting soil. The fruit is ripe and soft, but those delicate briny sea salt aromas peek through nonetheless. The tannins are very soft, making this a better near-term drinking proposition. Some 45,000 bottles were made.
