From the Carso region in the Julian Alps, named after the "karst" or limestone plateau on which it sits, hails this producer located near the mountain valley of the picturesque So?a River. The barrique-aged Castelvecchio 2017 Carso Cabernet Sauvignon offers dry, hot-vintage aromas with prune and blackcurrant. There are earthy notes as well with spice, leather, dried oregano and rosemary sprig. I would suggest a near-term drinking window with some grilled sweet sausage for this darkly saturated Cabernet Sauvignon. Production is 20,000 bottles.
