This cooperative has a good track record of turning out value-priced reds from the St.-Joseph appellation. Given the explosively high prices encountered for most northern Rhones, it is rewarding to find wines of this quality at such reasonable prices.
A light effort is the 1998 St.-Joseph, a dark ruby-colored, sweet smelling, elegant wine with plenty of black raspberry and cherry fruit, medium body, and a soft finish. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.
