Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Carignan offers nice purity on the nose, with black raspberries and warm cherries plus hints of baking spies and dusty soil. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm frame of chewy tannins, well-played freshness and a good core of fruit, finishing spicy.

The 2014 Carignan offers ripe black cherries and raspberry on the nose, just a smear of vanilla-laced oak lending a touch of exoticism. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, nicely structured with a keen line of acidity. This is a slightly austere Cadillac, but there is impressive persistence and appealing salinity on the finish.

An attractive wine, the basic cuvée of 2012 Carignan has complex notes of new saddle leather, roast meat, blackcurrants and cherries in an elegant yet flavorful, medium-bodied style. A blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, this wine sports a dark plum/ruby/purple color and excellent texture and richness. It is a sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.
