I love this wine made by Jean-Luc Thunevin and his wife, Murielle. With abundant notes of crushed rocks, spring flowers and ripe blue and red fruits, an enticing minerality and sweet tannins, it is capable of lasting 10-12 years.

Made in a leaner, more tannic, austere style than in the top vintages of Haut-Mazeris, the 2011 offers up aromas of chalk dust interwoven with blue and red fruits. Acidity is present and the tannins are slightly angular as well as elevated.

The chalkiness of the wine’s minerality struts forth aggressively, as do copious quantities of black currant and blueberry fruit. The wine hits the palate with serious authority, medium to full body, and plenty of richness and suppleness. Drink it over the next 10-12 years, although I think it could last even longer. This 2010 is a major sleeper of the vintage from this outstanding estate of 25 acres, which has produced another terrific wine. Thirty percent new oak was used during upbringing, and the final blend is 80% Merlot and the rest equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

A top-notch sleeper of the vintage from Jean-Luc Thunevin, this Canon Fronsac has loads of fruit, full-bodied, voluptuous texture and a certain elegance coming form the fresh acids and beautiful purity. The wine possesses a long finish, but unlike several of the Fronsacs, it could use some cellar time. This wine can be drunk now or cellared for up to a decade.

Dark plum/ruby, the 2008 is a very sexy, supple wine for this estate. Lots of mulberry, cherry and assorted red fruits linger in the aromatics and flavors. Medium-bodied, this seductive wine should be drunk over the next 5-6 years.
