Montelena's Chardonnay remains the finest of the non-malolactic, crisp, Chablis-like Chardonnays made in California. They have long been known for their remarkable purity of fruit. The 1992 offers abundant quantities of wonderful lemony/apple-like fruit, no noticeable oak, beautiful balance, superb concentration, and a mineral character, all of which are delineated by the wine's acidity. It is the antithesis of the bold, opulent, oaky, unctuously-textured style of Chardonnay. Some vintages of Montelena Chardonnay age remarkably well, and the 1992 will last for 5-8 years. Tel.
