The 2013 Costières de N?mes Terre de Feu is a more Grenache-dominated blend that includes 10% of Mourvèdre and Carignan. Aged 18 months in equal parts tank and demi-muids, it has a perfumed bouquet of strawberries, mint, flowers and peach pit to go with a medium-bodied, elegant, yet slightly simple and mid-weight style on the palate. I suspect it’s best consumed over the coming 3-4 years.

Still in barrel, the 2011 Costieres De Nimes Terre de Feu is a traditionally made blend of 95% Grenache, 3% Carignan and 2% Syrah. Aged half in concrete and half in older barrels, it offers a sweet, forward bouquet of wild strawberry, sweet spice, underbrush and hints of flowers to go with a medium-bodied, soft, supple and beautifully textured profile on the palate. Looking for more kirsch liqueur intermixed with hints of white chocolate, pepper, and underbrush? If so, the 2008 Terre de Feu will satisfy your needs. Composed of 90% Grenache and 10% Carignan, and also aged in 75% tank and 25% neutral French oak, it is a spicy, soft wine with super fruit, medium to full body, and a silky texture. It begs to be drunk over the next 1-2 years. Costieres de Nimes, an appellation centered around the ancient Roman settlement of Nimes, just south of Chateauneuf du Pape, remains one of France’s top sources for value wines. Chateau Mourgues du Gres has been producing successful wines for as long as I’ve been tasting in this region, and their current portfolio includes two strong whites, two strong roses, and a bevy of delicious reds. The 2009 Fleur d’Eglantine rose includes 30% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah, whereas the 2009 Galets Rose has 40% Syrah and much less Mourvedre. Both wines contain 50% Grenache.
