I cannot think of a better rose I have tasted over the last year than this wine. Made from 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache, it is an excellent choice for readers looking for a rose loaded with flavor, as well as remarkable levels of glycerin and intensity. Sadly, only 350 cases were imported, but readers can be assured that two of those cases will be going down my gullet over the next six months. The wine displays a medium pink color, and a knock-out nose of strawberry jam, framboise, and cassis. In the mouth, it is bursting with fruit, with surprisingly full body, a chewy level of extract and glycerin, and a knock-out finish. This is rose at its most intense and flavorful, enhanced by its exceptional purity and vibrant acidity. Drink it over the next 8-10 months.
Mourgues du Gres is one of the top estates of the Costieres de Nimes, an appellation south of Chateauneuf du Pape and Tavel, just north of the Languedoc-Roussillon.
