A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2012 Providence exhibits an earthy, new saddle leather, spicy, masculine style that is less expressive than most Pomerols. There is plenty of density, power and richness, but the wine seems monolithic and somewhat unformed at present. I suspect it will come around given how recent vintages have performed, but for now, it is closed and inaccessible.

The masculine, dense 2011 La Providence is not dissimilar from the great Trotanoy. It reveals a dense ruby/purple color, surprisingly deep, full-bodied fruit, more bulk, weight and richness than most wines from this vintage, and a long, moderately tannic finish. It will benefit from 4-5 years of cellaring, and keep for two decades.

Gentle medium-bodied wine. Fragrant and fruit driven on the palate. It has a certain elegance but also a nip of rusticity on the finish. Drink 2016-2024. (15.5 points)
