Chateau St. Jean has always been the benchmark for nectar-like beerenauslese and trockenbeerenauslese-styled late harvest Rieslings. The winery appears to have lost none of its magical touch with this varietal, first exploited with such success by St. Jean's first winemaker, Richard Arrowood. About 250 cases were produced of the 1994 Johannisberg Riesling Belle Terre Special Select Late Harvest. The grapes were picked at 37.5% sugar. The wine possesses 9% alcohol and 21% residual sugar. It is an exquisite, extraordinarily rich, viscous wine with enough acidity to provide vibrancy and delineation to its enormous sweetness and unctuosity. It is the ideal after-dinner dessert wine to serve with fruit tarts. In terms of aging potential, some of these wines can last for 10-15+ years, but in most cases they are best drunk within their first 5-7 years of life.Tel. (707) 833-4134; Fax (707) 833-4200
