A simple and fruity Montecucco Rosso with some red cherries and herbs on the nose. Medium-bodied and quite chewy on the palate with some rustic, drying tannins that override the fruit in the finish. Mouth-puckering end. From organically grown grapes. Drink in 2024.

The 2015 Montecucco Rosso Rigoleto is 70% Sangiovese, 15% Ciliegiolo and 15% Montepulciano that sees a minimal part aged in oak barrels. Most of the wine goes into stainless steel tanks instead and is stored at reduced temperatures to lock in that distinct aromatic verve. The wine is redolent of wild cherry and raspberry with light touches of moist earth and toasted nut at the back.

The 2009 Montecucco Rosso Rigoleto is an attractive, entry-level wine graced with expressive red fruit and sweet, floral notes. This mid-weight red impresses for its silkiness, and bright, perfumed fruit. It is a gorgeous wine at this level. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2013. The 2008 Montecucco Rigoleto (80% Sangiovese, 10% Montepulciano, 10% Ciliegiolo) offers up dark red fruit, flowers and spices backed up by firm Sangiovese tannins and vibrant, refreshing acidity.
