The 2010 M2 de Matallana is produced with Tempranillo and other grapes from head-pruned vineyards fermented in a combination of stainless steel and oak vats and aged for 14 months in French oak barrels of different ages. The nose is an explosion of flowers and red and blue fruit – very showy and clean – with aromas of blood oranges and a spicy and smoky hint from the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with clean flavors and a lush velvety texture, with refined tannins and superb acidity. This has great balance, and while it’s approachable already, it could age for a long time. 18,000 bottles produced. Drink now-2020.
I was pleasantly surprised by the wines from Ribera del Duero from Telmo Rodriguez, which showed great purity, focus, precision and balance with perfectly integrated oak, making them lush, hedonistic wines.
