It’s not offering much, but there is a big heart of blackberries and dark, ripe cherries, leading to speculations about ageability. The wine is varietally true, with firm, dry tannins framing massive flavors of berries, cherries, chocolate, plums and Asian spicebox. An exceptionally fine Petite Sirah, except don’t even think of opening it for a while. Made with a little Merlot, it’s a dark, tannic wine, with complex flavors of blackberries, currants, plums, balsamic, tamari, cola, chocolate and dusty spices. This is one of those old-fashioned Pets that will last for many years. But it’s fully drinkable now because of the upfront blackberry, cherry and spicy plum fruit.
