Lush fruity aromas of strawberries and cherry liqueur followed by purple flowers, green tobacco leaves, and tree bark with underlying notes of vanilla beans and bitter chocolate. Medium-bodied, soft acidity with fine and ripe tannins. Energetic. Try after 2026.

Enticing nose of plum, cherry and spicy cedar, together with bright citrus peel notes, all integrated nicely. Medium-bodied with a refined feel to the palate, due in part to the very well-integrated tannins that allow the fruit character to flow. All in balance and elegantly laid out. Drinkable now, but should broaden out with some time in bottle. Drink or hold.

Made with certified-organic fruit, the Cordella 2015 Brunello di Montalcino shows a note of scorched earth or burnt ember that I recognize from some of the other Brunelli from this warm and sunny 2015 vintage. The wine is not overripe per se, but the warm conditions of the vintage have instead endorsed toasted or charcoal-like aromas. Those smoky tones are backed by dark fruit, cherry confit and blackberry preserves. Try out some barbecued beef ribs for this one.

Here's a plump and syrupy expression from Montalcino. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino offers ripe fruit aromas with dark plum and blackberry preserves. This was a relatively cool vintage in this part of southern Tuscany, so all that extra ripe fruit comes as a surprise. There is a meaty or savory note on the close that recalls cured tobacco or toasted spice. The 14.5% alcohol adds to the wine's power and depth.

Now made with organically farmed fruit, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino offers noticeable brightness that is evident both in terms of the wine's appearance and its aromatic intensity. The bouquet puts on a solid showing with blackberry, dried cherry, cedar wood, tobacco and a touch of bitter chocolate. The wine offers an even performance in the mouth with firm but integrated tannins. Maddalena Cordella's production is large at 50,000 bottles.
