Cupano's 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva opens to a deep, dark color with opulent tones of dark fruit, spicy oak, toasted nut, smoke, graphite, tobacco and Spanish cedar. The wine shows broad shoulders and massive intensity that is measured in terms of concentration, extraction and bouquet. Slightly gamy notes of smoked bacon and bresaola give the wine earthy appeal. The mouthfeel is chewy, thick and slightly sweet. It is aged in 65% new oak for 33 months.
