The 2007 CABERNET SAUVIGNON RESERVE spent 18 months in French oak. Not surprisingly, it is too oak tinged on opening, laced with sweet oak notes and oaky nuances on the nose. Yet, I liked how this developed after about 90 minutes, as the oak flamboyance receded—mostly and relatively speaking—and the wine showed off its structure and more class, including a juicy, succulent finish. Nicely constructed, with moderate tannins and an elegant mid-palate, it evolved very nicely and became a pleasure to drink, with some intensity and grip on the finish. While this isn’t going to remind you of some earthy, profound Bordeaux, it has a lot to offer and it is a fair bit of fun. Drink now-2016.
