Proprietors Gilles and Thierry Faraval turned in an impressive performance with their 2003 Vacqueyras La Ponche. A blend of 70% Grenache (from 50-year old vines) and 30% Mourvedre (from 10-year old vines), it is a jammy, heady effort with loads of alcohol and fruit, medium to full body, and an exotic, ripe style boasting layers of fruit as well as glycerin. It is best drunk over the next 3-4 years to take advantage of its extroverted personality.Importers: David Hinkle, North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley, CA; tel.
