There is a touch of genius in this tiny bottle. The Hauner 2019 Malvasia delle Lipari Passito (in a tall 500-milliliter bottle) shows a dark golden appearance and immediate aromatic intensity. The wine reveals honey, toasted nut, candied almond and dried apricot. Heavier tones of dried fig and white raisin wrap smoothy over the palate. Made with air-dried grapes, this is a blend of 95% Malvasia delle Lipari and 5% Corinto Nero.

The 2017 Malvasia delle Lipari Passito (in a 500-milliliter bottle) adds the intensity and the heft that you don't get in the non-passito version of this wine. This expression has more substance and richness with more evident sweetness as well. A blend of 95% Malvasia delle Lipari and 5% Corinto Nero, it opens to a saturated golden color with copper highlights. The bouquet shows white raisins, dried figs and a touch of prune. It would be terrific with a pecan pie. Production is about 20,000 bottles.

I preferred the Naturale version of this wine to the 2015 Malvasia delle Lipari Passito. Packaged in a 500-milliliter bottle, this dessert wine (made with air-dried grapes) shows a more determined and forceful nature. It opens to powerful aromas of dried fruit and apricot, and there is a musky note that reminds me of air-dried porcino mushroom. The wine shows bright orange color. It finishes with silky texture that is infused with honey-like flavors.

Hauner's 2013 Malvasia delle Lipari Passito (500 mililiter) opens to a luminous but saturated golden color with dried fruit aromas of apricot, raisin, acacia honey and poached pear. The wine shows elegant saline touches as well with oyster shell and crushed mineral. Herbal notes of sage and oregano arrive in a second wave. This is a delineated and solid dessert wine with good complexity and a generally straightforward style that does not overwhelm the palate.
