The fruit for this wine is from Nicole's vineyard (Brad's wife) called the Omensetter vineyard. The 2021 Amphora Project NDV develops a layer of flor on the top of the ferment in amphorae, and the wine has a salty, tense, chalky character that weaves through the fruit. The skins are left in the vessels, for total of six months on skins. In August or so, the amphorae are moved to two tanks, settled, then the wine is blended and bottled. There are a lot of layers to this wine: ashy/chalky/amphora characters overlay the sweet black cherry/strawberry fruit, and the tannins eddy about in a dusty, fine way. There are notes of Campari (but specifically orange peel), licorice, ginger, brine, rosemary and mustard greens. Fine metallic characters through the finish. This is a divisive wine, but thrilling. 13.7% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
