The 2020 Crozes Hermitage immediately conjures visions of a wild blackberry thicket—slightly green, prickly, yet brimming with sweet fruit. That said, it's much more polished in the mouth, where this medium to full-bodied wine delivers ripe fruit, smooth, supple tannins and a lingering, softly tannic finish. Nicely done.

The vaguely herbal (stemmy?) 2019 Crozes Hermitage otherwise delivers mostly dark-fruited flavors of cassis and plum. It's medium to full-bodied and slightly jammy, with ripe fruit flavors, a bit of cooked fruit and a finish framed by gentle, soft tannins. Unlike at many estates, I preferred this domaine's 2017 and 2020 Crozes, which showed more finesse and balance than the two in between.

Ripe cherries on the nose of the 2018 Crozes Hermitage are accented by hints of alfalfa and green peppercorns. It's full-bodied, supple across the mid-palate, then turns zesty and crisp on the finish.

Aged entirely in demi-muids (15% new), the 2017 Crozes Hermitage is a top-flight effort, drawn from 50-year-old vines on the plain of Chassis. Full-bodied, plush and richly textured, it delivers oodles of blackberry fruit, accented by hints of vanilla and licorice, then finishes long and velvety.

Another fine example of what the vintage has to offer, the 2016 Crozes Hermitage is an attractive, easy-drinking wine for near-term consumption. It delivers peppery, floral notes hinting at pomegranate, with supple tannins and a fine, silky finish.
