With just 510 bottles produced, the 2010 Rosso is a resurrected interpretation of the blended red wine that brought Fiorano to cult stardom many decades ago. Now under the guidance of Alessia Antinori, winemaking is faithfully executed to maintain the traditions set forth years ago. The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from old vines planted near the ancient Via Appia inside the city limits of Rome. The bouquet is fresh and inviting with a very fine and linear delivery that focuses on wild berry, leather and mild spice. It offers a crisp approach with silky tannins and generous black fruit flavors. Hats off to Alessia and I look forward to tasting her future releases of this historic red wine.

Alessia Antinori offered to open an older bottle of Fiorano that was made when her grandfather was at the helm of the property. The 1988 Rosso is a beautifully elegant and refined expression that shows delicate tertiary notes of spice, resin, licorice and dried fruit. The tannins are supple and silky having had so much time to evolve with careful cellar aging. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot opens to a dark garnet color and beautiful aromatic intensity that builds in momentum as the wine takes on more air in the glass.
