The 1999 Pinot Noir PNX offers layers of sweet fruit on the attack as well as complex berry, earth, and floral notes, but in the mouth, it becomes attenuated. We've come to expect Pinot to be soft, delicate, spicy and fruity, withan assertiveness that makes it an iron fist in a velvet glove. This wine doesn't disappoint. The red-berry flavors are very spicy, and the tannins are intricate and finely meshed. There's an airiness, but nothing light about this powerful wine.——S.H.(12/15/2001)—— 91
