Vignon's 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape delivers even more than I hoped for based on a previous sample. Hints of garrigue, roses, cherries and raspberries appear on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied, silky and long, with an intense, almost briny finish. The assemblage is 50% Grenache, 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, plus smaller proportions of seven other permitted varieties, while the élevage includes foudres, demi-muids, concrete and wooden tanks, plus terracotta amphorae.

Vignon's 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape looks to be the best example he's put together to date of this cuvée. Full-bodied and supple, it comes at you with layers of fruit, ranging from stone fruit and raspberries through to blueberries and cola.

The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape is a full-bodied blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah, aged in a mix of concrete and wood vessels. Ripe stone fruit, raspberries and cherries cascade across the palate, framed by creamy-supple tannins and mouthwatering acids. While approachable now, there's enough structure to warrant cellaring for up to a decade. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

This blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah is aged in old barrels, which does change the profile of the 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape slightly. Black olives and plums pick up a hint of mocha in this ripe, concentrated offering that finishes a bit warm. I'd opt for drinking it over the near term.

The 2014 Chateauneuf du Pape is certainly a solid effort that reveals a healthy ruby/purple color, plenty of dark fruits, pepper and roasted herbs, with a medium body and solid concentration. It will evolve nicely through 2023. The blend is 75% Grenache, 18% Syrah and 7% Mourvèdre, aged in equal parts barrels and foudre.
