The 2009 Sao Expressiu is a blend of Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo aged in oak barrels for 14 months with notes of smoked bacon, tree bark, black cherries and licorice, and a full-bodied palate with some dusty tannins that call for food and/or a little more time in bottle. Drink 2014-2018. The thing that struck me the most about Blanch i Jove is the fact that they have giant sculptures in the middle of a vineyard they call the Artist’s Vineyard. The 2008 Sao Expressiu is a blend of 55% Garnacha, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Ull de Llebre aged mainly in new French oak for 14 months. It has a ripe, toasty bouquet of dark cherries, Hoi Sin and dried herbs, although the oak is rather obtrusive. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry and sappy tannins. Notes of cranberry, raspberry and soy combine towards the finish, which lacks a little finesse but has a nice tinge of tobacco on the aftertaste. Drink 2013-2017. The 2007 Sao Expressiu is composed of 55% Garnacha Tinta, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Tempranillo aged for 14 months in predominantly French oak. Dark ruby-colored, it sports a bouquet of cedar, spice box, tobacco, cassis, and black cherry. On the palate it is ripe, structured, and in need of another 2-3 years of bottle age. The 2006 Sa Expressiu is a blend of 55% Garnacha, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Tempranillo aged for 12 months in new French and American oak. Dark ruby-colored, it has a lovely perfume of liquid mineral, cherry, and cassis. Elegant on the palate with plenty of savory fruit and light, silky tannin, it will continue to improve for another 2-3 years and provide pleasure through 2020.
