The 2009 Vinyes Baixes is quite ripe and slightly oxidative, with an evolved color and notes of leather, cured meats, licorice, ink and ripe plums. The admirable 2008 Vinyes Baixas is a blend of Picapoll, Garnacha, Merlot, Carinena and Cabernet from Latena and Nobre Vinyer sub-regions. It has a complex bouquet of macerated dark cherries, orange peel and hints of cumin and rosemary. The palate is well-defined with a luscious, spicy entry and then holds everything back towards the svelte, silky finish, which is harmonious and caressing. This is very fine and should age with style. Drink 2015-2025+. The “entry-level” 2007 Vinyes Baixes is predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a dollop of Garnacha and Carinena aged 14 months in French oak. Despite the fact that the more prestigious grapes of the DO make only a cameo appearance, this is an impressive effort. Notions of cedar, cinnamon, clove, lavender, black currant, and cassis inform the nose of this smooth-textured, supple, nicely proportioned red. Rich, layered, and long, it will benefit from 3-4 years of cellaring and deliver prime drinking from 2014 to 2022. Clos Dominic’s newest releases set a very high bar. No known US importer

The 2004 Vinyes Baixes is composed of 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% old-vine Garnacha and Carinena, and 5% young Carinena aged for 14 months in seasoned French oak. Ruby red with violet hues, it exhibits an expressive bouquet of cedar, mineral, leather, red and black currants, and blackberry. This leads to a full-bodied wine with layers of spicy red and black fruits, a smooth texture, silky tannin, and excellent length. Give it 2-3 years to further blossom and drink it through 2020.
