The 2016 Aglianico del Vulture Serra del Prete is a bit more dried out and closed compared to the Pian del Moro, with sharper bramble and more Aglianico rawness. You can't miss the dry volcanic smoke and the big tannins in this old-vine expression. See if you can find some sheep and goat's milk cacioricotta for this one, along with fresh bread and green olives.

Made with organically farmed fruit, the 2015 Aglianico del Vulture Serra del Prete is a rich and powerful wine to pair with barbecued meats. Fruit is sourced from 50-year-old vines planted at 560 meters above sea level in the blackened soils of the Vulture volcano. The fruit concentration is superb. The wine sits firm over the palate both in terms of tannin structure and the robust nature of its black fruit flavors. Some 8,000 bottles were made. You get great value here.

A firm red, in the traditional style, with taut tannins. Shows tobacco and cedar accents to the flavors of red currant, tarry smoke and wild strawberry. Tangy, with an astringent, well-spiced finish.
