Basiliciata is home to a thriving brigand culture that gives hero status to the bandits rumored to hide in this rugged territory. The 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Covo dei Briganti is dedicated to the notion of this romantic brigandage. The wine is austere and deep with dark shadows and rough transitions. It is a seductive and unpredictable red wine with dark fruit tones, volcanic stone and exotic spice. Yet, it all comes together with seamless harmony in the mouth.

The 2012 Aglianico del Vulture Covo dei Briganti is a gorgeous expression with dark fruit tones of blackberry and currant that are smoothed out by tobacco, leather and dusty mineral tones. Cove dei Briganti pays homage to the brigand culture with Robin Hood-like overtones that is celebrated in Lucano folklore. The wine is seamless and silky on the nose and shows similar elegance and grace in the mouth. Rock solid tannins at the back will carry this wine forward over the next decade.
