The 2000 is tangy, but loaded with purity, ripeness, and character. Dolcetto remains a great bargain in the wine world, but it must be consumed during its first 2-4 years of life, before the fruit fades. Much like California Zinfandel, Dolcettos are gorgeous in their youth (because of their exuberance and fruit), but they do not develop. A huge fruit bomb, this tank-fermented and aged Dolcetto is produced from 50-60-year old vines. It offers explosive blackberry and cherry fruit with a hint of violets in the background. As the wine sat in the glass, aromas of roasted coffee also emerged. While it may not get any better, it will drink well for 3-4 years.
