The bouquet of the 2017 Campi Flegrei Piedirosso is heavy and dark in character, although the wine is actually quite light and easygoing in terms of mouthfeel. This monovarietal expression shows little primary fruit, and it unfolds with enhanced aromas of volcanic ash, tar and road paving. The Piedirosso grape, from the volcanic Campi Flegrei soils, always seems to show a more mineral-driven side. Production is 15,000 bottles.
