The 2018 Givry 1er Cru La Grande Berge mingles aromas of cassis, dark chocolate and toasty oak in an inviting bouquet, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy palate that's youthfully chewy and structured, with an oak inflected finish. This will need a few years to come together, but the raw materials are promising.

Ragot's 2017 Givry 1er Cru La Grande Berge wafts from the glass with scents of sweet cherries, spices and licorice. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and lively, with an open, expressive profile despite the fact that it was bottled merely two days before I tasted it.

The 2012 Givry 1er Cru La Grande Berge showed a little better in Burgundy than it did in London. It has that cedar-infused bouquet with a more tertiary aspect than I have noticed before. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a vivacious Givry with a linear, poised finish. Drink now-2018.
