The light-bodied, fresh 2012 Getariako-Txakolina represents a Galician rendition of a French Muscadet with some CO2 in addition to saline and citrus characteristics. This fairly priced quaffer needs to be consumed in its first year of life. It would match-up beautifully with any seafood, sushi or sashimi.
One of my favorite restaurants is Kaia, in the seaside fishing village of Getaria, and this wine comes from that neighborhood. It is made from two Basque varietals that are nearly impossible to pronounce, Hondurrabi Zuri and Hondurrabi Beltza. These low alcohol wines tend to be bottled with a lot of trapped CO2, and rarely reveal any evidence of oak. Doug Polaner is his name, and high quality wines in all price ranges is his game. I have been tasting with Polaner over a number of years, and these notes represent his very finest value selections.
