The eponymous red 2020 Vetus comes from different vineyards from a cooler year when they lost 25% of the grapes to frost. The wine is concentrated and ripe at 14.85% alcohol, powerful and generously oaked after 13 months in barrel, 33% of them new, and malolactic also in barrel. It's a powerful, ripe and spicy Toro. 11,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2022.

Fresh and well-knit, this medium- to full-bodied red features a dark, brambly mix of crushed black cherry and blackberry fruit, iron, sandalwood and cocoa powder notes. I found more tannin in the 2019 Vetus, a mixture of Tinta de Toro with some Garnacha from different vineyards cropped from a warm and dry year, which resulted in a wine that is a little riper and with slightly higher alcohol and good structure and concentration. 14,079 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2021.

The 2018 Vetus follows the path of the rest of the 2018s, a cool year that they say resulted in wine with less structure than the 2017s and with moderate alcohol and acidity. I like the elegant and fresh style and the integrated oak. It has black fruit and some notes of herbs, spices and licorice. The palate is medium to full-bodied with abundant, slightly dusty tannins. It follows the path of the 2016. 18,347 bottles were filled in April 2020.

Balanced and fresh, this lively red offers bright cherry and berry flavors mingled with herbal and forest floor notes. It has firm tannins and a citrusy acidity. Drink now through 2025. 3,370 cases made, 500 cases imported.??–TM??Region: Spain / Toro Select to Add
