The 2010 Sao Abrivat, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha, Tempranillo, Syrah and Merlot, is quite pale-colored with some orange tints and a blurry nose of boiled meat, dry straw and overripe plums, showing some signs of evolution. Unusual. Drink now. The thing that struck me the most about Blanch i Jove is the fact that they have giant sculptures in the middle of a vineyard they call the Artist’s Vineyard. The 2009 Sao Abrivat is a blend of 40% Tempranillo, 35% Garnacha, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot aged in 58% American and 42% in French oak for 12 months. It has an earthy, broody bouquet of dark brambly black fruits tinged with tar. The palate is simple, with sappy red and black tobacco-tinged fruit on the entry and rather coarse tannins towards the ample finish. Drink now-2016. The 2007 Sao Abrivat, a blend of 40% Tempranillo, 35% Garnacha Tinta, and the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from estate-grown vines. It spent 12 months in French and American oak. Dark ruby red in color, it offers up clove, cinnamon, incense, cranberry, and pomegranate aromas. This leads to a moderately tannic wine needing another 1-2 years of cellaring to unwind.
