As a curiosity, I tasted an unusual bottle of the 2001 Gran Reserva that comes in a bottle resembling something between an old roman amphora and a skittle with golden writing engraved on the bottle. Anyway, this is one of those wines that make you time travel with its nose of old Rioja, full of autumn leaves, porcini, truffles and dried roses. It feels even older than it is, with a silky texture where everything is perfectly blended together. This was produced with grapes from extremely old vineyards, and the wine matured in new and used American oak barrels for three years. A wine of yesteryear. This is highly drinkable though the price is another story... 5,000 bottles.
