Pierre Barrot's excellent 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape is a foudre-aged blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre and 1% each Counoise and Vaccarèse. Like the standout 2016, it delivers waves of ripe black cherries and plums on the nose, then is full-bodied, rich, concentrated and gently tannic in the mouth yet elegant and fine, with a long, silky finish and layers of complexity including hints of cocoa, lavender, cinnamon and clove.
