After the success Chante-Perdrix enjoyed with their glorious 1989, the 1990 is less exciting. While it is undoubtedly a good Chateauneuf du Pape, it lacks the concentration, complexity, and aging potential of the 1989. The color is a medium dark ruby, and the nose offers intense aromas of herbs, licorice, and red and black fruits. In the mouth the wine is medium- to full-bodied, with an attractive, unctuous, fleshy texture, good rather than great depth, and a smooth, silky finish. Quite evolved for its age, it is already revealing slight amber at the edge, so I would opt for drinking it over the next 5-6 years. Last tasted 4/95.
