I tasted what Frédéric Alary described as "the heart of the blend" from foudre before any sulfur additions, an assemblage of 40% Mourvèdre and 30% each Grenache and Syrah. Rich and concentrated, the 2018 Cairanne Reserve des Seigneurs is full-bodied, ripe, supple and long, with notes of violets and purple raspberries. Despite the vintage's challenges, it looks to be another beauty from this quality-conscious estate.

The 2017 Cairanne Reserve des Seigneurs is rich, concentrated and robust, yet it retains a sense of suppleness and crisp acidity. It's medium to full-bodied, loaded with flavors of purple raspberries and dried spices, with subtle garrigue shadings on the finish.

A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah, the 2016 Cairanne Reserve des Seigneurs is a beauty. Raspberries and strawberries highlight the red fruit of the vintage, while the tannins in this full-bodied wine are ripe and velvety. Hints of cola and spice emerge on the long, lush finish.

The 2015 Cairanne Reserve des Seigneurs is a concrete-aged blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah that showcases the deft touch at this estate. Raspberries, spice and cola notes start things off on the right foot, followed by a medium to full-bodied wine that's silky and elegant, with ample concentration and a lingering finish.

Tasting like a good St Joseph (although it’s roughly 60% Grenache and only 10% Syrah, go figure), the 2013 Cairanne Reserve des Seigneurs gives up lots of dark berry fruits, pepper, olive and hints of violets in a medium-bodied, pretty, pure and lively style. It shows the cooler nature of the vintage, has good acidity and a clean finish. Drink it anytime over the coming 4-5 years.
