The 2008 Naissance Rouge Vin de Pays (50% Marselan and 50% Merlot) is more substantial than the rose, exhibiting a dark ruby color along with attractive notions of spring flowers, black cherries, and berries. The 2004 Naissance rouge is 50% Marselen (a hybrid made from crossing Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache) and the rest Merlot and pure Grenache. It’s a soft, fruity vin de pays and surprisingly ripe, heady, and delicious. Terrific winemaking and an unusual blend have certainly resulted in something enticing. Drink it over the next year.
