The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice dispels a deep bouquet of cassis, blackberries, spices and smoke. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and rich, with ripe acids, melting tannins and a fleshy, gourmand profile.

The 2016 Gevrey Chambertin la Justice, which includes 60% whole bunch fruit and comes from the more limestone soils in the climat, has a lovely fresh, transparent bouquet with lively red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit mixed with minerals. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, gently grippy in the mouth and a little more matière on the finish compared to the village cru Gevrey. It just needs a touch more persistence, but otherwise this is fine.

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin la Justice had been bottled the day prior to my visit. Despite that, it offers attractive redcurrant and cranberry scents, orange rind and hints of brown spice. I expect it will open up aromatically within a few days. The palate is tightly wound on the entry with juicy red berry fruit, cedar and undergrowth notes, just a pinch of white pepper and good depth and grip on the finish. This will gain cohesion with time - the components are all here for a very delicious Gevrey.

The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin la Justice has a well defined bouquet with cranberry and wild strawberry scents, an attractive damp morning earth scent tucked just behind. The palate is medium-bodied with light raspberry and cranberry fruit, perhaps just missing a little detail towards the finish at the moment. I'd like the palate to match the level of the nose. We will see.

The 2013 Gevrey Chambertin la Justice is a selection of the best parcels on gravel soils, the rest deselected and blended into the village cru. It has a fragrant perfumed, floral bouquet that gently wafts from the glass: fresh strawberry, Morello cherry and touches of limestone. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity. There is good weight here, fanning out just a little toward the finish with blackberry and raspberry notes, belying the decent structure underneath. This is very fine considering the vineyard and is well worth picking up.
