The two finest wines from Domaine des Amouriers include the 1995 Vacqueyras Cuvee Genestres (a blend of 40% Syrah and 60% Grenache) and the limited production (225 cases, of which 25 cases will make it to the United States) 1995 Vacqueyras Cuvee Hautes Terrasses, made from 100% Syrah. The opaque black/purple-colored Cuvee Hautes Terrasses offers a lavish display of jammy blackcurrant fruit intermingled with scents of thyme, licorice, and spices. Full-bodied, powerful, and concentrated, with layers of flavor, this low-acid wine is a terrific example of a Syrah-based Cotes du Rhone. Reminiscent of the outstanding Cuvee Syrah made by Chateau de Fonsalette, it could be called the Hermitage of Vacqueyras. Drink it over the next 10-15+ years. This wine was tasted between June 1 and June 16, 1996.Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083
