The 2016 Puligny Montrachet la Garenne was one of the last vineyards to be picked. It has a brisk, slightly minty bouquet that opens nicely in the glass. The palate has good volume with cooking apple and fresh pear scents, although I would like to see more tension and nervosité toward the finish.

The 2015 Puligny Montrachet la Garenne, from just above Blagny at higher altitude than many vineyards, has an austere, almost earthy bouquet that takes time to express itself in the glass. The palate is crisp and fresh with fine definition, nice weight in the mouth, although at the moment I find the finish just a little smudged, even compared to the excellent village cru.

The 2014 Puligny Montrachet la Garenne has a crisp, limestone and chalk-scented bouquet accompanied by linden and apple peeling scents. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, and plenty of lime and white peach on the entry that builds and fans out in the mouth -- demonstrating fine weight on the composed finish. This Puligny should drink well over the next decade, possibly longer.

Firm apricot and apple nose, quite oak. Broad and weighty without being heavy-handed; concentrated, with lots of extract and a nutty finish, showing a welcome austerity that''s rare in 2009. Long.
