Herve Bizeul acquired his seventy-flve-or?so acres parcel by parcel. A former jour?nalist, he attracted a few column inches by pricing his La Petite Siberie cuvee at an unthinkable price for this region. It comes from a hillock around Calce, close to Gerard Gauby's vineyard, in a position that enjoys exceptionally cool conditions. Some might prefer the Clos des Fees, which is less powerful but possibly better behaved at table. Alongside these iconic wines the estate produces offerings at affordable prices, but still in line with the quality stan?dards of this winery; the Cuvee Les Sor?cieres is a case in point. Herve Bizeul also markets a range of wines called Walden, made from premium-quality grapes sourced from local producers.
