Similar in style to his Savigny Les Beaune, Cornu's Ladoix reveals gobs of cherry fruit, spice, and oak, a velvety texture that should have broad crowd appeal, and an overall sense of purity and ripeness. In 1993, the Cornu family, in what are usually difficult appellations, admirably succeeded in turning out harmonious, sweet, richly fruity wines that possess the stuffing necessary to stand up to the vintage's tannin. Moreover, Cornu's offerings include some excellent values.
Except for Cornu's Corton Les Bressandes, his vineyard holdings are in modest appellations. Nevertheless, he turns out better and better wines by keeping yields moderate and not overly processing the wines. Recent vintages have included strong efforts in 1989 and 1990. I should also note that Cornu's 1985 Corton Les Bressandes is living up to my high expectations.
